Research in Australia has revealed that road crashes are the most common cause of work-related fatalities, injuries and absences from work.     Traffic injuries are twice as likely to result in death or permanent disability than other workplace incidents.     Work-related road crashes cost the Australian community approximately $1.5 billion annually.     Under Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation in Australia, vehicles used for work purposes are considered as a workplace when the vehicle is supplied by an employer for use by a worker in the performance of work.     Therefore, employers have an obligation (or duty of care) to provide a safe place and a safe system of work. Likewise, employees have an obligation to perform work (including driving) safely and comply with the instructions given for workplace health and safety at the workplace by the employer.
